How To Do Steel Wool Photography

Here is my first steel wool photography experience. Just in case you would like to try to take some amazing steel wool photographs I can guide you through the whole process step by step. First of all, all my steel wool equipment needed for this unique experience was bought from Ali Espress. I am pretty sure you can find it on Ebay or Amazon as well, maybe slightly more expensive. If you don't mind waiting a bit, I recommend buying it from Ali Express. You can simply search for "steel wool photography kit". Before starting make sure you are in a safe zone where no one can get hurt & nothing can catch fire. For your safety, I recommend using some clothes you are not very attached to, gloves and goggles. You may find some wholes in your clothes from the fire droplets.

a) You will need to attach the whisk to the rope, wire or chain;

b) Take a piece of steel wool and stuff it inside the head of the whisk. Just enough to fill the space within the whisk;

c) Light the wool using the lighter, matches or any other reliable source of fire;

d) Holding the other end of the rope or chain spin the wool in a circle causing the sparks to fly from the end of the whisk.

Regarding camera settings for the steel wool shot I recommend the following:

ISO: 100 ideally

Shutter speed: 6'-8'

Aperture: 5.6

Of course, feel free to play with the settings in order to get a minimum of 6 seconds for this shot. If you have any questions about camera settings, don't hesitate to contact me on my social media platforms (Facebook & Instagram) or using the contact form. Let me know in the comment section below if you enjoyed watching this and I will try to create a better one next time. Good day to you! Adrian
